Maybe not. If your car won’t shift, or has doesn’t seem to have any power, then what you’re experiencing is called “failsafe.” It’s how the transmission is designed to operate when the computer system shuts down. Failsafe is built in to enable you to drive to a repair shop without causing more damage to the transmission.

Is The Transmission Working Properly?

Of course, just because it’s in failsafe doesn’t guarantee the transmission is okay. It’s possible that it has a problem, but you won’t know that until you have the system checked and the cause of the problem identified.

So get your car over to your local Cottman center! They’ll be able to examine the computer system and see why the transmission is in failsafe. It may be something as simple as a blown fuse or a faulty electrical relay.
